Emerging Leaders is a certificate program that will focus on leadership themes, topics and frameworks. It is open to students of all levels of study and any program from across the university. The goal is to enhance students' understanding and application of leadership skills. The series will be structured into personal, group, and community-engaged leadership topics offered bi-weekly during the academic year.

Membership Benefits
The sessions during this section will focus on developing a deeper understanding of self through critical dialogue, awareness activities and ongoing reflection. Students will be directed to understand how their characteristics impact their leadership style and relations to others.

Our Mission
MacEwan University shall provide a breadth of quality athletic programs of interest to MacEwan University students that are infused with the values of excellence, gender equity, academic integrity, personal growth and development, consistent with the educational experience at the university.

Exceptional Student-Athlete Experience
Griffins Athletics provides one of the top post-secondary experiences in Canada to our student-athletes. Our teams and athletes continually strive for excellence both in the classroom, on the playing surface, and in giving back to the community.

Academic Excellence
In order to support the mission of the University, balance between excellence in academics and athletics is a key value of Griffins Athletics. Every season, several student-athletes receive U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian honours.

Athletic Excellence
The Griffins’ quest for excellence is demonstrated on a weekly basis by our teams and athletes on the court, ice or field. Our success is evidenced by the number of awards our athletes bring home annually, including team championships, individual medals, all-conference selections and Player of the Year Awards. Our coaches are no exception, as several have received Coach of the Year recognition by their peers.

Community Engagement
The third vital principle pillar of the Athletics program is our community engagement. Student-athletes and coaches give back to the community through volunteer work with not-for-profit organizations, for example, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Special Olympics. Teams also give back by working with youth sport groups, including the Northern Alberta Volleyball Club, Hockey Edmonton, the Edmonton Girls Hockey Association or even the Junior Griffins programs. Many of our coaches also represent the institution in the community by coaching at the provincial and national levels of their sport.

Every student at MacEwan is encouraged to conduct research and creative activity.
When you work on a research project, you explore big ideas, ask important questions, and gain experience that matters.

The Office of Research Services offers workshops for students on topics such as gaining research experience and grant writing, and we offer students opportunities such as serving on MacEwan's Ethics Boards, working or being featured on the Research Recast(ed) podcast, and our annual Student Research Day event.
More events will be added for the 2026-2027 academic year in the Fall semester.

SAMU Student Groups are approved groups that share a common interest or purpose. Each group is led by a student executive team, selected by and for the members. Student groups enhance the student experience by providing students with meaningful programs, events, and opportunities to connect and pursue various interests. Student groups offer a safe environment for people to interact, make new friends, learn new skills, and improve existing skills. We encourage students to dream big and think about the endless possibilities for student groups on and off campus.
